All Day
Eisenhower Public Library District

Event Details

We can't take bus trips right now but, thanks to the internet, we can explore the world from the comfort of our homes. Every Wednesday, we're presenting a series of links to cultural institutions in Chicago and beyond. Today we'll visit the Musée d'Orsay.

The Musée d'Orsay in Paris, is housed in a former railway station built between 1898 and 1900. The museum holds mainly French art dating from 1848 to 1914, including paintings, sculptures, furniture, and photography. It houses the largest collection of impressionist and post-Impressionist masterpieces in the world, by painters including Monet, Manet, Degas, Renoir, Cézanne, Seurat, Sisley, Gauguin, and Van Gogh.

Discover the vision of a contemporary figure: an artist, a writer, a philosopher, a designer, a musician, an actor, or a film director, with the museum's videos focusing on pieces chosen from the collection.

With Google's Arts and Culture Project you can view the transformation from train station built for the Universal Exhibition of 1900 to one of the largest art museums in Europe.
